Careers Night 16/10/08

Posted October 16, 2008 by Ben Harrison in Previous Events

The ABSS Careers Night, held on Thursday October 16th 2008, saw the attendance of speakers from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Deloitte, KPMG, and Bell Potter Securities. The night commenced at 5:30pm, with an address by Peg Miller from the ICAA. Kylie Buckley from KPMG followed, at which point there was a brief break during which a catered snack of sushi was on offer. Throughout this break speakers maintained an audience of students, addressing questions and taking the opportunity to have a more informal chat with the future business graduates who attended the careers night.

Once everyone had moved back into the lecture theatre and were seated, John Rawson, a Tax Partner from Deloitte, addressed students with an engaging speech in which he spoke of his career and professional experiences. Chris Pouras, a stock broker from Bell Potter Securities, concluded the night with and enlightening speech on his experiences in financial markets. This was followed by questions, in which one student decided that some pro-bono advisory services were in order – Chris’ hot tip for the current economic climate was to invest in resources. As students filtered out of the lecture theatre, they again took the chance to have a more relaxed chat with representatives from each of the firms.
