The Adelaide Business Students’ Society aims to establish itself as the premier student society for students studying a University-accredited business degree in the city of Adelaide. A business degree includes but is not limited to:
- Bachelor of Commerce;
- Bachelor of Finance;
- Bachelor of Business Information Technology;
- Bachelor of Economics; or
- Master of Business Administration.
The nature of activities undertaken by the Adelaide Business Students’ Society will be guided by their relevance to students studying a business degree (henceforth ‘business students’). In determining relevance, regard shall be had to:
- The impact an activity will have on a business student whilst studying at University;
- The impact an activity will have on a business student following graduation from University; and
- The opportunity cost of providing a particular event or activity.
To achieve this goal, the Adelaide Business Students’ Society will focus on providing the highest possible quality of service and conducting itself with the utmost integrity, in all areas of operation.
In the professional sphere, these areas include but are not limited to:
- Provision of career information;
- Diversification of students’ perspectives on potential career avenues;
- Organisation of professional development activities;
- Organisation of competitions;
- Publication of a periodical magazine;
- Facilitation of communication between firms and students; and
- Facilitation of networking opportunities for students.
- In the social sphere, these areas include but are not limited to:
- Fostering a sense of identity and community in being a business student;
- Providing a scheme through which students can identify themselves as a member of the society;
- Increasing interaction between business students; and
- Facilitation of networking opportunities for students.
- With regard to the University of Adelaide, these areas include but are not limited to:
- Assisting students new to a business degree in adapting to University life;
- Assisting faculty as much as practically possible with endeavours within the scope of this mission;
- Working with the University of Adelaide Commerce Alumni in the furtherance of this mission; and
- Advocating students’ views with regard to business degrees at the University.
Ultimately, the goal of the Adelaide Business Students’ Society is to provide such aforementioned services in both the professional sphere and the social sphere, catering for the interests of business students throughout their study at University.
The Adelaide Business Students’ Society adheres to six key values in carrying out its operations.

We are success-driven, and aim to deliver the highest quality performance in everything that we do. We push ourselves to ensure that we can continually develop ourselves, our peers and our organisation.

- We complete all tasks in an efficient and effective manner.

- We look for new and innovative ways to achieve our goals, taking advantage of new technology as it becomes available.
Professionalism
- We always conduct ourselves in a professional manner, being mindful of our position as the premier student society for students studying at University, and our affiliation with other professional bodies.
Integrity
- We are honest, trustworthy, and reliable. We treat others with respect, and conduct all activities in an ethical fashion. We are global thinkers, and seek to learn from different ways of life and opinions represented in our multicultural environment and strive to be mutually understanding and respectful of people from different cultures and backgrounds.
Collaboration
- We are team-oriented. We respect each of our committee members for their knowledge, skills, and experience as individuals and team members, and actively encourage the contribution of every individual. Through such a collaborative approach, we develop leadership and management skills.
There are several elements upon which the Adelaide Business Students’ Society aspires to improve. Some of the most important areas include:
- Expansion to other Universities in the city of Adelaide, such as the University of South Australia, and Flinders University;
- Strengthening of links with faculty at the University of Adelaide;
- Strengthening of links with the University of Adelaide Commerce Alumni;
- Strengthening of links with firms and other benefactors relevant to the Adelaide Business Students’ Society;
- Improved continuity between years to ensure greater transitional efficiency;
- Solidified organisational structure, both internally and externally;
- Increased scope of operations with regard to corporate interaction;
- Increased depth of operations with regard to corporate interaction;
- Development of tradition through the running of annual events;
- Increased calibre of events, with a focus on those run within the professional sphere; and
- Improved approach to accountability with regard to delegation of responsibility for tasks.
